With two sophomores and two freshmen in the varsity lineup, there can be some uncertainty as the IHSAA postseason begins.  But those young players passed their first test on Wednesday afternoon in a 5-0 victory over Muncie Burris in the opening round of the Delta Sectional.

Sophomore Brylee Beckley was sharp from start to finish in a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 2 singles.

Sophomore Kelsey Vest and freshman Rowan Hinds cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 2 doubles.  And freshman Katie Manor teamed with senior Janet Wegener to win 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles for their 20th victory of the season..

Combined, the freshmen and sophomores won 36 games and lost only 2.

For the whole match, Delta dropped 10 games.  This was a slight improvement from the regular season, when the Owls won 13 games against the Eagles.

Next up for Delta (17-3) will be the sectional championship match at 4:45 p.m. Friday.  Yorktown and Muncie Central will play at 4:45 p.m. Thursday in the second semifinal to determine Delta’s opponent.
