In a battle of two undefeated teams, Delta topped Mt. Vernon 3-2 in a road match Tuesday evening.

Both teams entered with 7-0 records.

Delta got on the board quickly with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 1 doubles as seniors Tynan Dishman and Maggie Manor improved to 10-0 for the year.

Junior Maggie Hunt followed with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles.  She is 10-1 on the season.

Mt. Vernon then prevailed at No. 1 singles as hard-hitting Lydia Ruegsegger, the top player in the Hoosier Heritage Conference, defeated junior Gwen Clark, 6-1, 6-1.

The Eagles clinched the team match when senior Abby Bamidele turned in a 7-5, 6-1 victory at No. 2 singles.  Bamidele settled down after a slow start and improved her record to 9-1.

Senior Sara Cardemon and sophomore Janet Wegener suffered their first loss of the season. They fell 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2 doubles.

The JV team won 9-5.

Singles winners were Gabby Knight and Hailey Conner.  The Eagles won six doubles matches, including an 8-1 win from Mary Groover and Madelyn Haley at No. 1.  Lizzy Thomas and Hannah McDowell overcame four match points to win 8-7 (7).

Ninth-ranked Delta will host second-ranked Carmel at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
