In 1993, a gallon of gas cost $1.11, the president was Bill Clinton, the top movie at the box office was Jurassic Park, and Michael Jordan led the Chicago Bulls to the NBA Championship for the third year in a row.

Also in 1993, the Delta Eagles boys’ tennis team won the sectional title, starting a streak that now has reached 27 straight years.

The 27th consecutive title came Saturday morning in a 4-1 home-court victory over Muncie Burris.

The 23rd-ranked Eagles improved to 18-3, reaching the 18-win mark for the 10th straight season. Delta advances to the Marion Regional where the Eagles will face Winchester at 5 p.m. Tuesday. Marion and Lapel will meet in the other semifinal, with the winners to return Wednesday for the regional championship.

The only tight match in the sectional finals came at No. 1 singles, where Delta junior Tanner Southerland and Burris freshman Charlie Behrman played a three-set match for the second time in a week. This time Behrman prevailed, 6-2, 1-6, 6-2 to avenge his loss a week ago to Southerland. Behrman, 17-2 this season with his only other loss coming to Park Tudor, will advance as an individual in the singles tournament.

Delta junior Brandon Jackson moved to 21-3 with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Mason Waldron.

Senior Daniel Vencel improved to 17-6 with a perfect 6-0, 6-0 result.

Seniors Mason Knight and Cade Brown won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles and are also 17-6.

Senior Jaigen Glaze and sophomore Walker Boyle won 6-0, 6-0. Glaze is 17-3 and Boyle is 16-3.
