The girls’ varsity and JV teams each placed runner-up at eight-team invitationals in different parts of the state on Saturday, April 23.
The varsity traveled west to the annual Crawfordsville Invitational. They won 11 of 15 individual matches and tallied 37 points for second place. Tenth-ranked Westfield won the tourney with 54 points. Bloomington North (22) and Terre Haute North (21) placed third and fourth, respectively.
Janet Wegener and Maggie Hunt won the #1 doubles flight. Gwen Clark was runner-up at #1 singles, and Madelyn Haley and Iva Witter were runners-up at #2 doubles.
Off the court, the girls enjoyed dinner at the Creekside Lodge along the banks of Sugar Creek and then went for ice cream before playing games in the hotel.
The JV team traveled north to the Plymouth Invitational. This was our fourth attempt to play in the tourney, and the first time it wasn’t rained out or postponed by Covid.
Our JV finished second in the 8-team event. We won 12 of 15 matches on the day. Caitlyn Kirby and Hailey Conner won singles flights, and Kelsey Vest was a singles flight runner-up.
Afterward, the girls enjoyed some ice cream at Ivanhoe’s!
