The boys’ tennis team took charge of the Hoosier Heritage Conference race by gaining a convincing 5-0 victory over New Palestine on Wednesday evening.
Delta, ranked 24th, improved to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in the HHC.
The Eagles were dominant in doubles, as Cade Brown and Mason Knight cruised 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 and Walker Boyle and Jaigen Glaze rolled 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2..
Brandon Jackson made quick work of his opponent, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 2 singles. Daniel Vencel had no trouble at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-2.
The match at No. 1 singles was the evening’s most dramatic. Junior Tanner Southerland outlasted New Pal senior Ben Blachly, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, in a three-hour match.
The Eagles’ JV earned a 10-4 victory and also moved to a 5-0 record for the season.
Delta plays in the powerful Fort Wayne Carroll Invitational on Saturday. This tournament features six state-ranked teams. In the 9 a.m. opening round, Delta will face Hamilton Southeastern.
