The Eagles showed some grit Wednesday evening in a 4-1 loss to 12th-ranked Fort Wayne Carroll on Delta’s third consecutive night of road trips.

Playing one of its finest matches of the season, the Eagles won at No. 1 doubles, lost in three sets at No. 2 doubles, and lost 4-6, 4-6 at No. 2 singles.  The match was played at the Norwell HS courts.

In addition, Delta won 9-2 at the JV level to improve its season record to 9-1.

In the varsity match, Walker Boyle and Dalton Royal played a fundamentally strong match at No. 1 doubles and pulled away for a 6-3, 6-1 victory.

Mason Wrisley and Landon Freiburger played the longest match of the evening, losing 3-6, 6-4, 1-6 at No. 2 doubles.

Owen Vest competed on relatively even terms throughout his No. 2 singles match before falling 4-6, 4-6.

Delta (8-5) will travel to Pendleton Heights on Tuesday, Sept. 22, then will host Lapel on Wednesday, Sept. 23.

The JV team will compete this Saturday in the Peru Invitational with Peru, Logansport and Culver Academies.
