Delta flexed its depth on Wednesday evening as the Eagles shut out Marion 5-0 even while inserting three subs into the varsity lineup.
Juniors Tru Swoboda, Anna Marcum and Marley Dowling all won their varsity opportunities.
Swoboda played No. 3 singles and won 6-0, 6-0.
Marcum and Dowling got the call at No. 2 doubles and won 6-4, 6-3.
No. 2 singles Brylee Beckley took less than a half hour to win 6-0, 6-0.
No. 1 doubles Kelsey Vest and Kate Manor also made quick work of the Giants, winning 6-0, 6-0.
At No. 1 singles, junior Elizabeth Bamidele played her second three-set match in the past two days. She beat Marion senior Ava Marroni, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 one day after falling in three sets to Yorktown’s Jillian Darby.
The 20th-ranked Eagles moved to 10-2 on the season with the victory.
Delta improved to 6-2 at the JV level with a 5-0 shutout of Marion.
Winners were Maddi Cox, Maddy Polito and Katelynn Preston in singles, and Mackemzie LIpps/Ilicia Ritter and Noelle Longsworth/Chloe Oliver in doubles.
Delta will compete Saturday in two matches in Fort Wayne. The Eagles will face Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger at 10 a.m., followed by 18th-ranked Homestead at 12:30 p.m. The matches will be at Concordia Lutheran HS courts, which are in the sports complex adjacent to Zollner Stadium.
