Win 5 - 0

Playing a stronger schedule throughout the season ;paid off for Delta as the Eagles rolled to a 5-0 home-court victory over a gritty opponent, Triton Central, on Wednesday.

Triton Central entered the match with an 11-1 record and is currently #3 in District 4 behind Delta and Mt. Vernon.

But Delta has played five state-ranked opponents this spring, and so the Eagles were well prepared for the challenge.  They dropped only 17 games and improved to 10-1 for the season.

Nowhere was that more apparent than at No. 1 singles.  Freshman Sophie Crabtree played her best match of the season as she lasered her groundstrokes from corner to corner in a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Maryrose Felling.

Felling, a senior who had lost only four matches over the past three seasons, is an excellent athlete who will play basketball at Marian University next year. She is the granddaughter of former Indiana University assistant basketball coach Ronn Felling, who passed away earlier this week.

Olivia Marshall used her accurate targeting to win 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 singles. Stella Sieber outlasted a foreign exchange student at No. 3 singles in a 6-2, 6-4 victory.

At No. 1 doubles, Kate Manor and Alexa Bratton were pushed in the opening set before collecting a 6-4, 6-1 win over one of the district’s top doubles teams.

And at No. 2 doubles, Rowan Hinds and Elizabeth Bamidele steamrolled their opponents, 6-1, 6-0.

In the JV match, everyone got to play as Delta posted a 9-7 victory.  The match featured three tiebreaks and many close sets.

Delta swept singles as Paige Hayes won 8-2, Maddi Cox won 8-4, and Bria Engle won 8-5.

Avery Gray and Mia Elliott romped to an 9-0 victory at No. 1 doubles.

Two varsity players and two JV players are undefeated for the season.  They are Elizabeth Bamidele (14-0 varsity), Rowan Hinds (14-0 varsity), Mia Elliott (12-0 JV), and Mylee Jones (7-0 JV).

Tonight (Thursday) the Eagles will travel to Yorktown for a rescheduled SmashCancer 14.0 match against the Tigers.  The pre-match ceremony will begin at 5 p.m. with introductions and Server Survivors.  Come out and enjoy the event!  There will be concessions, apparel sales and raffle sales.  The raffle drawings will be held during the evening.
