With convincing victories at No. 2 singles and both doubles, the 11th-ranked Eagles collected a road victory over regional rival Marion on Wednesday evening.
Freshman Gwendolyn Clark won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.
Sophomores Tynan Dishman and Maggie Manor dominated 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles, and senior Mayzie Hinkle and sophomore Abby Bamidele won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.
Regular No. 3 singles player Maggie Hunt sat out the match with a wrist injury. Junior Liv Bradburn filled in but ran into a buzzsaw as Marion freshman Jaden Sebastian won 6-0, 6-0.
The No. 1 singles match between Delta senior Ellie Snider and Marion senior Kayla Dubuque did not finish due to rain. They were still in the first set when all other matches were done. Dubuque won the first set 6-4, with the last game finished just as the courts became too slick to continue.
Delta won the JV match 4-0, also.
The Eagles (13-1) will face Yorktown at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in the annual SmashCancer match at the YHS courts. Server Survivors will hit their first serves at 4:30, with matches to follow. Come out Thursday to support this great cause as we raise money for local cancer organizations.
If weather prevents us from playing Thursday night, then the match would be rescheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday.
