VS

Jay County (Noblesville Regional semifinals)

Tuesday, October 8th at 4:45 p.m.

Win 5 - 0

The Eagles’ postseason domination continued on Tuesday evening as Delta blitzed Jay County 5-0 in the opening round of the Noblesville Regional.

The Patriots managed to win just six games. This comes on the heels of Delta allowing zero games to Muncie Central and 10 games to Yorktown in the two sectional matches.  For the postseason so far, the Eagles have won 180 games and given up only 16.

Things will get more challenging today (Wednesday) in the finals of the Noblesville Regional, where the Eagles will face 18th-ranked Noblesville for the regional title.  The Millers advanced with a 4-1 victory over Frankton on Tuesday evening.

The highlight for Delta on Tuesday was the victory by senior Kody Vest at No. 1 singles.  This was his 50th career varsity win, surpassing assistant coach Tate Dishman (49).  His Jay County opponent, senior Eli Dirksen, entered the match with 15 straight victories, but Kody dominated from start to finish in a 6-0, 6-0 win and improved his season record to 15-8.

Also winning 6-0, 6-0 was freshman Luke Atkinson at No. 3 singles.  He improved to 18-7 for the fall.

Completing the singles sweep was senior Owen Cupp at No. 2.  He won 6-2, 6-0 and is now 13-12 this season.

In doubles, juniors Brady Williams and Ben Miller won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 and junior Aaron Elliott and sophomore Tyce Dishman won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles. As partners, Brady/Ben are 14-5 together and Aaron/Tyce are 12-2 together this season.

Delta improved its team record to 16-6 entering the regional final.  The team has competed against a difficult schedule.  In fact, 10 teams that Delta competed against this season are still among the 32 teams remaining in the state tournament.  Those teams are:

Columbus North
Cathedral
West Lafayette
Western
Culver Academies
