The Eagles dropped only 11 games in a 5-0 victory over Jay County in the opening round of the Marion Regional on Tuesday evening.
Delta (17-8) will face Madison-Grant (21-4) in the regional finals at 5 p.m. Wednesday. The winner advances to the Homestead Semistate on Saturday.
The Eagles will be chasing their 25th regional championship in the past 28 years. Madison-Grant, in contrast, is in the regional for the first tine in school history.
In Tuesday’s victory over Jay County, the closest match came at No. 1 singles where Dalton Royal defeated Abe Dirksen, 6-3, 6-3. Owen Vest claimed a 6-0, 6-3 victory at No. 2 singles over Simon Dirksen. And Kody Vest won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles over Eli Dirksen. Simon and Eli are brothers, while Abe is their cousin.
In doubles, Colin McCrady/Riley Bratton won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 and Isaac Anderson/Preston Shanayda won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2.
Madison-Grant’s strongest positions are in the singles spots. The Argylls, however, swept Marion and Mississinewa by 5-0 scores in the sectional, then swept Frankton 5-0 in the opening round of regional.
Madison-Grant won the Central Indiana Conference championship this fall. Last year’s CIC winner, Mississinewa, went on to eliminate Delta in the regional.
