Will history repeat itself?
Last fall, the Delta boys’ tennis team dominated their early postseason opponents (losing only 13 games) and then knocked off 11th-ranked Westfield 3-2 to win the Noblesville Regional.
This spring, the Delta girls’ tennis team has dominated their early postseason opponents (losing only 14 games) and will play 10th-ranked Westfield in the championship match of the Noblesville Regional.
The 15th-ranked Eagles (18-2) earned that position by shutting out Jay County 5-0 on Tuesday evening in the first round of regional. The Patriots collected only two games in the match.
No. 2 doubles player Rowan Hinds teamed with Elizabeth Bamidele to win 6-0, 6-0 and improve to 23-0 for the season. This was the 86th career varsity victory for Hinds, who now stands second only to teammate Kate Manor on the all-time victory list. Hinds has played No. 2 doubles throughout her career, first with Kelsey Vest, then two seasons with Alexa Bratton, and then this season with Bamidele.
Manor picked up her 92nd career win as she and Alexa Bratton also won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles.
Olivia Marshall and Stella Sieber each improved to 19-4 for the season. Neither dropped a game against Jay County.
Sophie Crabtree defeated fellow freshman Claudia Dirksen 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles and raised her record to 18-5.
The regional championship will begin at 5:15 p.m. at the Noblesville Millers Tennis Complex. Admission is $8.
