On the hottest day of the year so far, the Eagles scorched Jay County 5-0 in the opening round of the Noblesville Regional on Tuesday evening.
With temperatures nearing 90 degrees, Delta (18-4) limited the Patriots to only five total games.
The No. 1 doubles team of Kelsey Vest and Katie Manor played sharp in a 6-0, 6-0 victory, which improved their season record to 22-3.
Reaching at l;east 20 victories in a season is an outstanding accomplishment. Rowan Hinds and Alexa Bratton reached that milestone as they won 6-0, 6-1 and climbed to 20-5 for their first season together.
No. 3 singles player Elizabeth Bamidele also won 6-0, 6-0. In three postseason matches so far, Bamidele has not yet lost a game!
Gabby Knight gained her 19th victory of the season and the 67th of her career with a 6-0, 6-1 win at N0. 1 singles. She also was chosen to the North-South Indiana Senior All-Star match earlier in the day Tuesday. (That match will be Sunday, June 9 in Pendleton.)
Brylee Beckley won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles and is 17-4 this spring.
With 32 teams still alive in the chase for the IHSAA State Championship, the focus today turns to the regional championship round. Delta will play Westfield, which advanced with a 5-0 victory over Alexandria on Tuesday.
Today’s match will begin at 5:15 p.m. at the Noblesville Tennis Complex. Admission is $7. The winning team advances to the Homestead Semi-State on Saturday against the winner of the Homestead-Norwell match today.
