The Delta varsity boys’ tennis team shut out Yorktown 5-0 on Thursday evening to reach the finals of the Delta Sectional.

The 16th-ranked Eagles (16-3) will host Muncie Burris on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the finals. Delta will be aiming for its 26th consecutive sectional championship.

Senior Tannon Dishman was first off the court with a 40-minute victory at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0, over Caleb Lloyd. Next off was the No. 2 doubles team of junior Mason Knight and sophomore Michael Curtis, who won 6-0, 6-1 over Carson Orr and Gavin Centofanti.

Clinching the victory was No. 3 singles player Tanner Southerland. The sophomore won 6-0, 6-2 over Isaac Stachler.

Senior Joel Ashman and sophomore Brandon Jackson won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles for their 19th win of the season. They beat Yorktown’s Mason Minniear and Nathan Hicks.

Finishing the shutout was senior Ben Bamidele. He beat Joey Ulrich 6-2, 6-4.

Delta and Burris did not meet during the regular season. Burris advanced to the finals by shutting out Muncie Central, 5-0.

The winner of the sectional will advance to the Marion Regional on Tuesday, where they will play the host Giants in the opening round.
