A rare trip to Madison-Grant resulted in a 4-1 varsity victory and a 12-2 JV victory for the Eagles on a beautiful Thursday evening.
It was the first time in Coach Cleland’s career for Delta to play a match at Madison-Grant. This match was arranged due to an opening remaining from the cancellation of the Jeffersonville Invitational earlier in the season.
Tanner Southerland played an excellent match at No. 1 singles, winning 6-1, 6-0 over a talented Madison-Grant senior.
Adam Altobella also played well at No. 3 singles, winning 6-3, 6-0.
The Eagles swept doubles, with Brandon Jackson-Dalton Royal rolling 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 and Jordan Ashton-Riley Windsor prevailing 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2.
Madison-Grant’s varsity entered with a school-record total of 14 victories. Delta, ranked 27th in the state, improved to 13-5 with the win.
At the JV level, the Eagles won 12-2 against an M-G team that was perfect 14-0 on the season. It was Delta’s best JV performance of the season.
Eli Arnold, Owen Vest, Mason Wrisley and Jake Bilby won in singles.
Doubles winners were Sam Arnold-Aidan Landis, Riley Bratton-Landon Freiburger, Kaiden Baty-Ross Meacham, Colin McCrady-Caleb Hewitt, Preston Shanayda-Cooper Roach, Brad Shue-Jake Bilnby, Logan Anderson-Isaac Anderson, and Will Kile-Corbin Windsor.
Delta’s varsity plays in the eight-team Delta Invitational on Saturday, Their first opponent will be Western at 8:45 a.m.
Meanwhile, the JV team (15-2) plays at the Fort Wayne Carroll Invitational on Saturday against Homestead and Carroll.
