Several first-year players picked up victories Thursday night as the Eagles’ JV topped Yorktown 10-4 at the Tiger courts.
Freshman Graham Hartman, who just started playing tennis this season, won twice, 6-3 in singles and 6-2 in doubles with Jensen Moody.
Freshman Cooper Coutinho, also new to tennis this season, pulled off perhaps the biggest victory of the evening with a 7-5 win over Yorktown junior Ethan Hellams.
Freshmen Carson Mick and Jaylen Tracy won 6-0 in doubles.
Freshmen Jacob Tokar and Drew Durkovich gained a 6-3 victory in doubles. Tokar improved to 8-0 this season.
Freshman Stanley Hutchens won 6-2 in singles.
And freshman Kiptyn Schwartz teamed with sophomore Bryce Carmichael to earn a 6-1 win at the top doubles spot over Carter Day and Myles Rench.
The Eagles won three other matches as well:
> Sophomore Owen Zacek won 6-4 over Gavin Bailey at No. 1 singles.
> Sophomore Andrew Alexander also beat Bailey by the same score, 6-4.
> And juniors Maddox Weddle and Denys Krushenytskyi posted a 6-1 victory in doubles over Day/Rench at the top doubles spot.
All four of the Delta losses on the evening came in very close matches.
Hunter Reed and Jonah Swift took their match to a tiebreaker before falling, 6-7.
Reid Cardemon came up short, 4-6, against Hellems.
Jason Ogle and Grant Durkovich also lost 4-6 at the No. 2 doubles position. It was the first loss of the season for Durkovich,
And Kiptyn Berry and Austin Carrigan fell 4-6 at No. 3 doubles.
The JV team now is 6-1 on the season with its only loss coming by an 8-9 score at Culver Military Academy.
On Saturday, the varsity will compete at the Kokomo Invitational at 9 a.m., while the top JV will play at the Noblesville Invitational at 10 a.m. The second JV will compete at the Western Invitational at 9 a.m.
