Delta played perhaps its best match of the season when it counted the most, battling third-ranked Indianapolis North Central tough on Saturday before losing 4-1 in the semi-state.

No. 1 doubles players, senior Brandon Jackson and junior Walker Boyle, punched their ticket to the State Doubles Finals with a 6-7, 6-2, 6-3 victory.

They will play on Friday, Oct. 23 at the Individual Singles and Doubles State Finals. Those matches will be played at the 30-court North Central complex in Indianapolis.

This will be the 11th time in Delta Tennis boys’ history (and the first time since 2011) that the Eagles have competed in the singles or doubles state finals:

There will be anywhere between five and eight teams in the field for state doubles.  Pairings will not be determined until after the team state finals this coming weekend.

Jackson and Boyle are 16-1 together this season.  Jackson is 25-2 overall, while Boyle is 16-1 due to two weeks spent in quarantine.

The 28th-ranked Eagles (21-6) were competitive in other matches Saturday, also.

Seniors Jordan Ashton and Riley Windsor fell in three sets at No. 2 doubles. They lost 1-6, 6-2, 1-6.

Senior Tanner Southerland hung tough against one of the state’s top players before falling 2-6, 4-6 to Ajay Mahenthiran.

Senior Josef Zacek dropped a 2-6, 1-6 decision to Alex Antonopoulis.  Junior Adam Altobella fell 1-6, 0-6 to Marquis Willingham.
