Delta continued its recent mastery over Fort Wayne Canterbury as the Eagles shut out the Cavaliers 5-0 on the road.
Delta girls’ tennis now has beaten Canterbury in each of the past four seasons. All four times both teams were state-ranked. This time, 13th-ranked Delta blanked 24th-ranked Canterbury for the first time. The previous three years the Eagles had won by a 3-2 score each time.
Junior Ellie Snider picked up a nice victory at No. 1 singles as she defeated Samantha Becker 7-5, 7-6 (4).
Delta rolled everywhere else. Emma Snider won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, and Tynan Dishman won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3 singles. In doubles, Grace Belangee and Lexie Manor were 6-1, 6-2 winners and Kortney Helm and Maggie Manor were 6-2, 6-0 winners.
In the only JV match played, Canterbury won a doubles set 8-3 over Sara Cardemon and Mary Groover.
Delta (11-1) will return to Fort Wayne on Tuesday for a 5:30 p.m. match against Fort Wayne Concordia Lutheran.
