Delta wrapped up the 2027 Hoosier Heritage Conference championship on Saturday with a perfect league record.

Delta girls’ tennis once again claimed the Hoosier Heritage Conference championship with a perfect 7-0 record in league matches.

The Eagles wrapped up the league title with a 4-1 victory over Shelbyville in match that was played indoors in the First Serve Racquet Club in Muncie due to rain.

Delta has been a member of the HHC since 1996-97 and will remain in the league for one more year before joining the Eastern Crossroads Conference in 2027-28.

In the 30 years that the Eagles have been in the HHC, the girls have won 25 of the possible 29 league titles (there was no season in 2020 due to Covid).

Delta gained a 3-2 victory over Mt. Vernon earlier this season to give the Marauders their only loss in league play.  Delta added 4-1 wins over New Castle and Shelbyville and picked up 5-0 wins over Greenfield, Yorktown and New Palestine.  Delta won 6-1 over Pendleton Heights on Senior Night.

On Saturday, the Eagles swept doubles with aggressive play at both positions.  Kate Manor and Alexa Bratton won 6-0, 6-1 and Elizabeth Bamidele and Rowan Hinds won 6-1, 6-0.  Together those girls have won 38 of 40 varsity doubles matches this season.

Stella Sieber gained a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles to improve to 16-4 this spring.

Olivia Marshall pushed back a stiff challenge from Shelbyville senior Sophia Asher in the opening set and won 7-5, 6-1.  Olivia also is 16-4 this spring at No. 2 singles.

Sophie Crabtree had won 10 of her previous 11 matches at No. 1 singles but ran into a buzzsaw on Saturday as Shelbyville’s hard-hitting Ava Muckerheide dictated the action in a 6-2, 6-2 victory for the Golden Bears.  Crabtree is 15-5 this spring.

Delta, ranked 16th, increased its season record to 15-2.  This is the 14th consecutive season in which Delta has won at least 15 matches in girls’ tennis.

The JV match resulted in a 9-7 victory for Delta as they improved to 11-2 overall. Shelbyville graciously played back three times to allow every Eagle to get a match.

Delta won the top three singles spots and the top six doubles positions before losing many of the playbacks.

Addisen Condie and Ryanne Evans-Bales were awarded the Tater as the players of the match.  They won 6-4 against Shelbyville’s top JV doubles pairing.

The Eagles will finish the regular season on Monday with a 5 p.m. match against state-ranked Homestead at Taylor University courts.
