Win 5 - 0

With Shelbyville officially leaving the Hoosier Heritage Conference after this season, the future of the tennis series between Delta and Shelbyville is unclear.  But if Saturday turns out to be the final meeting of the two schools in boys’ tennis, the series ended with a bang.

The Eagles won 5-0 in the match at the Mt. Vernon courts.  The highlight came at No. 1 doubles, where junior Tyce Dishman and freshman Brandon Grubbs teamed up for their first match together and knocked off one of the district’s top doubles teams, senior Aiden Smith and junior Wyatt Armstrong.

Smith, a baseball signee at the University of Kentucky, played in the State Doubles quarterfinals two years ago and was ranked No. 2 in the district in doubles last season. He and Armstrong were unbeaten this year through the first six matches.

Dishman and Grubbs dropped the first set 3-6 and faced two match points in the second set, but survived to win a tiebreaker.  Delta then dominated the final set for a 3-6, 7-6, 6-1 victory.

Freshmen Jackson Darby, freshman Charlie Vannatter and sophomore Luke Atkinson controlled the singles matches, dropping a combined total of just seven games.

Seniors Aaron Elliott and Brady Williams cruised 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.

The Eagles won the JV match 11-1.
