Delta’s annual trip to Culver Academies was different than normal as no fans were permitted for either team due to Covid-19 precautions.
But just as it has in every year of this head-to-head series, Delta prevailed. This time, the varsity final score was 4-1.
Match updates were sent frequently to parents using the What’sApp phone application during the matches.
Senior Tanner Southerland won 6-2, 7-5 at No. 1 singles over Paul Wilson from Mexico City.
Senior Josef Zacek made his debut at No. 3 singles and gained a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Sam Meares of Knoxville, Tenn.
At No. 1 doubles, senior Brandon Jackson and junior Walker Boyle won 6-0, 6-3 over AJ Davidson of Lake Forest, Ill., and Dominic Hayden of Sacramento, Calif.
At No. 2 doubles, seniors Riley Windsor and Jordan Ashton won 6-3, 6-4 over Wes Henthorn of Indianapolis and Simon Grim of Munster, Ind.
Culver gained its point at No. 2 singles, where Nate Posner of Schwenksville, Pa., edged junior Adam Altobella, in a third-set tiebreaker. Posner won the first set 6-7 (6), then Altobella took the second set 7-5. The tiebreaker went to Posner 4-10.
Delta’s JV team collected a 9-5 victory.
Eli Arnold gained a tiebreaker victory at No. 1 singles. Mason Wrisley and Owen Vest also won singles matches.
Sam Arnold and Dalton Royal won at No. 1 doubles, 8-5. Other doubles winners were Kaiden Baty/Riley Bratton, Landon Freiburger/Logan Anderson, Brad Shue/Jake Bilby in a tiebreaker, Corbin Windsor/Luke Zacek, and Heath Sprague/Hanson Heintzelman.
Delta’s varsity and JV each improved to 5-1 for the season.
