Jeffersonville Invitational

Full varsity and JV event

For the first time since 2006, the varsity boys’ tennis team earned the championship of the Jeffersonville Invitational on Friday and Saturday.  Senior Ben Bamidele at No. 2 singles and junior Mason Knight/sophomore Michael Curtis at No. 2 doubles won flight championships.

From 2001 through 2006, Delta dominated the tournament, winning the title all six years.  In 2007, Zionsville ended that streak as Delta finished second.  Between 2007 and 2017, Zionsville won twice, Jeffersonville won twice, Jasper won twice, Guerin Catholic won twice, and Evansville Memorial and Columbus North each won once.  Delta finished second in 2007 and 2013.  The invitational evolved over the years into one of the state’s top regular-season tournaments, annually featuring five or more state-ranked teams.

Last year the Eagles placed sixth among the eight teams.  But this season, they turned it around by gaining 36 points, two more than defending State Runner-Up Jasper.  Delta beat Jasper in three out of four head-to-head matches, winning at No. 2 singles and both doubles.
