Despite playing a very young lineup, the Delta girls’ tennis team won 14 of 15 individual matches Saturday en route to winning the four-team Eagle Round Robin.

The 15th-ranked Eagles defeated 30th-ranked West Lafayette, 4-1, in the morning’s first match. They then shut out Fort Wayne Canterbury, 5-0, and blanked Greenfield-Central, 5-0, in the day’s other matches.

For the day, Delta used two seniors, five sophomores, and two freshmen in its varsity lineup. The rest of the teams combined to use eight seniors, 11 juniors and two sophomores in varsity action.

Sophomore Maggie Manor was dominant at No. 1 doubles as she won 36 games and lost only three. She partnered with sophomore Tynan Dishman for two of the wins and with senior Mayzie Hinkle for one win. Sophomores Abby Bamidele, Sara Cardemon and Mary Groover also won doubles matches.

Senior Ellie Snider was 3-0 at No. 1 singles. She won 6-2, 6-1 over West Lafayette, 6-1, 6-1 over Canterbury, and 6-0, 6-1 over Greenfield.

Freshman Gwendolyn Clark went 2-1 at No. 2 singles. She beat Canterbury and Greenfield after losing to West Lafayette.

Freshman Maggie Hunt finished 3-0 at No. 3 singles. She rallied to win her opener over West Lafayette, 3-6, 6-4, (10-5). Hunt then topped Canterbury 6-3, 6-3 before easily defeating Greenfield.

The Eagles also went 6-0 in JV matches on the day. Winners included Carolina Vidal, Liv Bradburn, Ryley Bilbrey, Maddy Robbins, Madelyn Haley, Sara Cardemon and Mary Groover.

Delta (4-0) will have a busy schedule next week. The Eagles play a JV match at Yorktown on Monday, then host Muncie Burris on Tuesday. They then travel to Mt. Vernon on Wednesday before hosting Alexandria in the annual Teacher Appreciation Day match on Thursday. On Saturday, the Eagles travel to the varsity Crawfordsville Invitational and the junior varsity Plymouth Invitational.
