Led by the three singles players, the Delta girls’ tennis team opened its season Monday night with a 5-0 shutout conference victory at Greenfield-Central.
The 14th-ranked Eagles (1-0) did not lose a game in singles. Senior Ellie Snider at No. 1, freshman Gwendolyn Clark at No. 2, and freshman Maggie Hunt at No. 3 all won 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles, senior Mayzie Hinkle and sophomore Tynan Dishman won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1. Senior Ryley Bilbrey and sophomore Maggie Manor won 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2.
The Eagles will host the Eagle Round-Robin Invitational on Saturday with matches against 30th-ranked West Lafayette, Fort Wayne Canterbury and Greenfield. Action begins at 9 a.m.
In JV action, Greenfield-Central posted a 9-8 victory.
Winners for the Eagles were Liv Bradburn and Madelyn Haley in singles, and the doubles teams of Sara Cardemon/Abby Bamidele; Mary Groover/Maddy Robbins; Madalin Davis/Carly Ratliff; Olivia Miller/Ainzli Grismore; Jacy Bradley/Bailey Brown; and Helena Heintzelman/Lizzy Thomas.
