Led by a strong performance at No. 1 singles, the Eagles romped to a 5-0 victory over New Castle under beautiful sunny skies Monday evening.

It was the first home match in a stretch of seven home matches over an eight-day period.

Delta, ranked 20th in the latest Indiana Top 30 poll, improved to 4-1 overall and 3-0 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference.

Junior Elizabeth Bamidele continued to show her rapid improvement,  She defeated New Castle’s Peyton Blessinger 6-2, 6-0 at the top singles position.  Bamidele is 5-2 this spring at No. 1 singles after playing mostly No. 3 singles a year ago.

Senior Brylee Beckley recovered from a first-set loss to defeat Ashlynn Blessinger 2-6, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.  Beckley improved her record to 6-2.

Junior Olivia Marshall also is 6-2 after 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles.

Senior Kelsey Vest and junior Katie Manor won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles. They are 6-2 with five straight wins.

The team’s best record belongs to the No. 2 doubles duo of junior Rowan Hinds and sophomore Alexa Bratton. They are 7-1 after a 6-0, 6-0 victory.

Delta won the JV match 14-3 as all Eagles got to play again.  Stella Sieber, Tru Swoboda and Addy Anderson swept singles, all by 6-0 scores.

Freshmen Avery Gray and Maddi Cox each improved to 10-1 this spring for the best records on the JV squad.

The homestand continues on Wednesday when the Eagles host Muncie Burris at 4:30 p.m.  Then conference rival New Palestine visits on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. for a key HHC match.
