The girls’ tennis team opened its season Monday with a 5-0 road victory at Greenfield-Central.
The victory extended the Eagles’ winning streak in Hoosier Heritage Conference dual meets to 81 straight wins over the past 12 years in girls’ tennis.
Senior Janet Wegener and freshman Katie Manor won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles. Junior Gabby Knight won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles.
Other winners were sophomore Brylee Beckley and senior Iva Witter in singles and sophomore Kelsey Vest and freshman Rowan Hinds in doubles.
The JV team rolled to a 12-3 victory as everyone on the team got to play. Leading the way in singles were Caitlyn Kirby and Olivia Marshall. In doubles, the top winners were Rylen Jones/Elizabeth Bamidele and Emily Hayes/Stella Sieber.
Next up for the 18th-ranked Eagles will be a home match vs No. 1 ranked and defending state champ Carmel. That match will start at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
