Loss 0 - 5

Top-ranked Cathedral proved to be too strong for 8th-ranked Delta in the IHSAA Team State Finals on Friday, May 31st at the Carmel HS courts.

Cathedral won 5-0 to end Delta’s season with a 24-2 record.

Cathedral went on to win the State Championship the next day with two dramatic 3-2 victories over #3 Carmel and #2 Park Tudor.  All three Cathedral singles players finished unbeaten for the season.

Delta senior Ellie Snider battled her best but lost 1-6, 0-6 to Cathedral’s Ellie Pittman.  Freshmen Gwen Clark and Maggie Hunt also fought hard but could not dent the skills of their Cathedral counterparts, Megan Coleman and Claire Koscielski.  Each match was 0-6, 0-6.  Koscielski finished her high school career with an unbelievable record of 101 wins, 0 losses!

In doubles, Delta was much more competitive.  Tynan Dishman and Maggie Manor suffered a 3-6, 4-6 loss at No. 1 doubles.  Mayzie Hinkle and Abby Bamidele fell 3-6, 6-4, 2-6 at No. 2 doubles.

Dishman and Manor finished 18-2 together, while Hinkle and Bamidele ended 15-1 together.

Delta played 11 state-ranked teams and finished with 8 wins, 2 losses and 1 uncompleted match against those ranked squads.  The Eagles’ best win was over Center Grove, which finished in the Final Four.  Delta also had great wins over Hamilton Southeastern and Fort Wayne Carroll.
