Muncie Burris (Eagle Round Robin)

Friday, April 17th at 4:45 p.m.

Win 5 - 0

The annual Eagle Round Robin tournament got off to an early start Friday afternoon as Delta and Muncie Burris took advantage of an 85-degree sunny day to play their first-round match a day early.

Thirteenth-ranked Delta won the match 5-0 to remain unbeaten at 3-0 for the spring.  Burris lost for the first time and is now 4-1.

The teams played early to help with the schedule Saturday with rain in the morning forecast.  Delta, Burris, West Lafayette and University are scheduled to resume the invite at noon Saturday.

As always, Burris brought a high level of fundamental skill and effort/hustle to Friday’s match, making the Eagles earn their points.

Delta freshman Sophie Crabtree won 6-1, 6-0 over Lucia Donahue at No. 1 singles. Donahue, the lone senior for the Owls, is at the top of the lineup for the second straight season.

At No. 2 singles, senior Olivia Marshall was the first to finish with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over junior Courtney Hense.

No. 3 singles was the tightest match.  Delta senior Stella Sieber won 6-2, 7-5 over Burris sophomore Anna Murray.

In doubles, senior Kate Manor and junior Alexa Bratton won 6-0, 6-2 over juniors Jessica Holroyd and Chloe Reed.

Seniors Rowan Hinds and Elizabeth Bamidele won 6-1, 6-1 over junior Rebecca Harmer and freshman Marlowe Shermeta.

Marshall and both doubles teams are unbeaten for the season.

In JV action, freshman Paige Hayes won 8-1 and sophomore Avery Gray won 8-0.
