Delta Tennis players won or contributed to the championships in 12 of the 22 divisions in the 18th annual Penguin Classic tennis tournament, which concluded Friday, June 28 at the DHS courts.
Delta Middle School eighth-graders Dalton Royal and Nicki Southerland each won two titles. They teamed to win 14-under mixed doubles, and Dalton also won boys’ 13-under singles while Nicki won girls’ 14-16 doubles with partner Gabby Knight, a Delta Middle School eighth grader.
Delta HS senior Mason Knight won 17-19 boys’ doubles with Burris freshman Charlie Behrman. Knight also won 15-19 mixed doubles with Burris senior Isabelle Behrman.
Delta Middle School sixth-grader JJ Lynch and Royerton fifth-grader Tyce Dishman won 13-under boys’ doubles.
Delta sophomore Gwendolyn Clark won 14-16 girls’ singles.
Delta graduate Alec Robillard teamed with Grant Esposito to win Men’s A Doubles.
Delta coach Tim Cleland won 40-over singles.
Delta senior Daniel Vencel won Men’s B Singles.
Delta juniors Abby Bamidele and Sara Cardemon won Women’s B Doubles.
Delta sophomore Madelyn Haley teamed with her father, Christian Haley, to win Mixed B Doubles.
The biggest winner overall in the tournament was the Behrman family. Isabelle Behrman, a senior at Burris, won four titles: 17-19 girls’ singles, girls 17-19 doubles, 15-19 mixed doubles, and women’s A doubles. Her brother Charlie, a freshman at Burris, won 17-19 boys’ singles and 17-19 boys’ doubles.
