Senior Day is always a special match.
Monday’s Senior Day match against Mt. Vernon takes on even more significance, however, as the Hoosier Heritage Conference championship will be up for grabs.
The Senior Day ceremony begins at 4:30 p.m. in the shelterhouse, with the match to follow. Seniors Cade Brown, Jaigen Glaze, Mason Knight, Devin McKinley and Daniel Vencel will be honored by teammates, parents, families, and fans.
Both Delta and Mt. Vernon are having big season.
Delta, ranked 23rd, is 15-3 overall and 6-0 in the HHC.
Mt. Vernon is 15-1 overall and also 6-0 in the HHC.
Delta will be aiming for its 20th HHC title since 1996. The Eagles’ boys’ tennis team has won more league titles than any other school in any other sport.
All of the seniors have played a big role in this season.
Mason Knight, in his third season of varsity doubles, is 14-6 at No. 1 doubles with senior Cade Brown, who is playing his first season of full-time varsity tennis. Knight now has 50 career varsity victories, which puts him into the Top 30 all-time for DHS Boys’ Tennis.
Daniel Vencel is 14-6 at No. 3 singles in his first year of full-time varsity play. He has won eight of his last 10 matches.
Jaigen Glaze is playing full-time varsity for the first season, also. He is 14-3 at No. 2 doubles with sophomore Walker Boyle.
Devin McKinley has earned a varsity letter, also. He and doubles partner junior Riley Windsor have put together a terrific season with a 5-0 varsity record and a 19-1 JV record (the only “loss” being a 4-7 deficit to Hamilton Southeastern in a match that was stopped before completion).
Together they have led the varsity to a 15-3 record and state ranking all season and the JV to a 13-2 record.
