Believe it or not, we are now less than one month away from the start of the 2025 DHS boys’ tennis season … and so there are many things happening over the next four weeks for boys and girls in our program.
Many of these things need your attention. Some are opportunities to help. And others are simply important dates to be aware of as we approach the new school year.
To make it as easy as possible to digest everything, this is a chronological list of what’s happening:
MONDAY, JULY 7
Moratorium Date
TUESDAY, JULY 8 through SATURDAY, JULY 12
Week Two of 29th annual Tim Cleland Tennis Camp
During this week, the time schedule is 8-9 a.m. for K-5th; then 9-11 a.m. for middle school and HS regular; and then 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for HS advanced.
In the afternoons between 2 and 5 p.m., we offer inexpensive private lessons for campers. This rate is $10 per half hour for most of our coaches and $15 per half hour with Coach Tim and Coach Jim Wegener, each of whom have taught tennis for 30+ years. This is an incredible opportunity for those who are serious about trying to get better! There will be a signup sheet at the first day of camp on Tuesday.
MONDAY, JULY 14
Moratorium Date
TUESDAY, JULY 15 and WEDNESDAY, JULY 16
Part One of the 23rd annual Penguin Classic tennis tournament at Delta courts.
2025 PENGUIN SINGLES AND MIXED FORM.docx
Singles and Mixed Doubles Divisions will be played these two days. Deadline to enter is 5 p.m. Friday, July 11.
This is an inexpensive tennis tournament that is also a fundraiser for DHS Tennis. The fee is $15 for singles or $12 per person for doubles or mixed doubles. All players are guaranteed at least two matches in each division they enter.
Entry forms will be passed out at tennis camp and completed forms can be turned in toward the end of tennis camp week!
THURSDAY, JULY 17 and FRIDAY, JULY 18
Part Two of the 23rd annual Penguin Classic tennis tournament at Delta courts.
2025 PENGUIN DOUBLES FORM.docx
Doubles Divisions will be played these two days. Deadline to enter is 5 p.m. Tuesday, July 15.
This is an inexpensive tennis tournament that is also a fundraiser for DHS Tennis. The fee is $12 per person for doubles . All players are guaranteed at least two matches in each division they enter.
SATURDAY, JULY 19
Each summer, we work one day of parking admission at the Delaware County 4-H Fair as a fundraiser for the tennis programs and to help out in our community. First shift is from 3 to 6 p.m. and the second shift is from 6 to 9 p.m. Coach Tim will work both shifts. It is best if each shift has at least two adults and three players. The work is not difficult. Cars pull in to the fair and there is a fee to park. We collect the fees and send them on to the parking area. By working the shifts, we receive $500 for our tennis programs. This is easy money and is helpful toward all the things we do for our players during the seasons — so please consider helping out this year! Several times a parent and a player have worked a shift together, such as last summer when Rob and Krista Swoboda worked alongside Kam Swoboda for a shift.
PLEASE TEXT COACH TIM IF YOU CAN HELP WITH EITHER OF THE PARKING SHIFTS!
MONDAY, JULY 21 and TUESDAY, JULY 22
These are the dates of a boys’ and girls’ competitive trip to play against top players in Jasper and Bloomington. This is for varsity level players for the boys and girls. We will play in Jasper on July 21 against Jasper, Evansville North and Barr-Reeve and then will play in Bloomington on July 22.
The fee for each player is $25 to cover hotel costs.
For the parents who also plan to go, the hotel we are staying at is:
Sure Stay Plus Best Western in Jasper
Our Delta Tennis rate for that night for the player rooms is $99. You may be able to get that same rate or could stay at any hotel in the Jasper area.
WEDNESDAY, JULY 23
Moratorium date
THURSDAY, JULY 24
This will be a summer match for boys only against Kokomo at the Taylor University courts. We will start at 5:30 p.m. We expect to be able to play about 20-25 boys that night, and so if you are interested in being part of that, sign up with Coach Tim over the next couple of weeks! There is no charge for this event.
SATURDAY, JULY 26
This is the annual DelCom Foundation golf scramble at Albany Golf Club with an 8 a.m. start. This event raises money for the Delta Tennis Scholarship fund as well. Last year we were able to raise about $7,000 for the tennis scholarship fund. Each year we award college scholarships to senior boys and girls in our tennis program who apply for these scholarships, with criteria being leadership, character and service.
2025 DelCom Foundation Annual Golf Outing Team & Hole Sponsor Forms (1)
The DelCom Foundation is a tax exempt 501(c)(3) entity so your donation is tax deductible.
Here’s how YOU can help:
1. We need about 10 parents/players to volunteer to work the event. Roles include things such as working a registration table, monitoring a par-3 hole with a special “game” offered, and other similar jobs.
PLEASE TEXT COACH TIM IF YOU CAN HELP WITH THIS IMPORTANT EVENT!
2. Maybe you would like to enter a team in the golf scramble. The cost is $260 — which is $65 per player — and covers greens fees, two carts per team, and food. This form is part of the link above.
3. Hole sponsor. This is just $50 and you receive a sign at the hole which lists your name, organization or business. This form is part of the link above.
MONDAY, JULY 28 thru SATURDAY, AUGUST 2
These are the dates when they plan to resurface our tennis courts. The courts will be down for at least a week, depending on weather. The plan is for all cracks and “dead spots” to be filled and fixed and then for the courts to be resurfaced and repainted. The new color scheme is expected to be blue courts with a gray background, which will be an exciting new look!
TUESDAY, JULY 29
Season organizational meeting for boys’ tennis. Meeting will be 6 p.m. in Room 130 at the high school.
MONDAY, AUGUST 4
Boys’ season begins!
Additional notes:
The updated boys’ tennis schedule is on this website. Just click on SCHEDULE.
We have added two new VOLUNTEER ASSISTANT COACHES for the boys’ season. In addition to Head Coach Tim and Assistant Coach Tate, we also will have Volunteer Assistant Coach Bob Darby and Volunteer Assistant Coach Shane Hartman.
The Jeffersonville Invitational will be Aug. 22-23. This is something where we expect to take the entire team for the weekend. We stay Friday and Saturday nights. We are back at the hotel where we stayed last year, which is the Hampton Inn Louisville-North Clarksville. Our room rate for our block is $99 per night. Reservations must be made by Aug, 8th. The team books the rooms for all players. There are additional rooms available for parents, and you make those reservations individually.

And finally … as you know, Delta currently is searching for a new athletic director after Tilmon Clark took the Hamilton Southeastern HS athletic director job. In addition, the athletic administrative assistant (Rhonda) has been out of the office for several weeks attending to her adult son, who is recovering from critical injuries in a traffic accident.
Since things will be chaotic in the athletic office as the school year approaches, each of us can help by taking care of the Final Forms registrations for your player and ensuring that physical exams are done soon. You are asked to upload your completed physical exam form to Final Forms.
For more info on Final Forms and for a physical form, visit the Delta Eagles athletics site and clIck on FORMS:
Ok, that’s an overwhelming amount of information, but at least it’s all here in one place! Don’t forget to text Coach Tim if you can help with the Fair parking and/or the Golf Outing!
