Delta HS head coach Tim Cleland enjoyed visiting the Club Med Tennis Academies in Port St. Lucie, Florida, on Tuesday, March 26, 2019.
He spent several hours watching training sessions under the direction of academy owner Gabe Jaramillo (pictured above at left) and enjoyed the hospitality of former professional player Dominique van Boekel (also pictured above).
Jaramillo and van Boekel were featured presenters at the Indiana Tennis Convention in February. Coach Cleland made the return trip this month to watch the training in person.
The Club Med academy includes more than 50 boys and girls from around the world who are full-time residents at the academy. They typically train for three years or more. Some of the players are among the top juniors in the world in their age groups.
Throughout Jaramillo’s career, he’s trained 10 of the world’s No.1-ranked players and 27 top 10 players including Andre Agassi, Jim Courier, Pete Sampras, Maria Sharapova, Monica Seles, Kei Nishikori, and many others.
