For more than 20 years, the Eagles have participated in the Kokomo Invitational, which annually brings together varsity and JV teams from West Lafayette, Kokomo and Lebanon for a great day of tennis. For the sixth straight season, Delta won the varsity championship on Saturday, and for the fourth straight year they also won the JV title.
The 25th-ranked Eagles are now 9-3 for the season after shutting out Lebanon 5-0, blanking Kokomo 5-0, and slipping past West Lafayette 3-2 in varsity action. Jason Wegener, Bam Bamidele, Tannon Dishman and Joel Ashman all were undefeated in their matches.
The JV team is 10-3 after their three victories on Saturday. Blake Shanayda won the decisive tiebreaker for a narrow 4-3 win over West Lafayette in the final round. Jackson Boyle, Caleb Gillis, Ben Slavin, Jaigen Glaze, Josef Zacek, Riley Windsor, Sam Arnold, Blake Shanayda, Micah Coomer, and Tyler Courtney all were unbeaten on the day.
