25 in a Row for the Eagles

Delta dominated Muncie Burris and Muncie Central to claim their 25th straight boys’ tennis sectional championship.

The Bearcats managed seven games in Wednesday’s semifinal round, and the Owls scored only six games in the finals.

Delta (17-4) has won every boys’ tennis sectional title since 1993.  The current streak of 25 in a row is the fourth-longest active streak in Indiana.

Against Burris, Jason Wegener, Ben Bamidele and Tanner Southerland all won 6-0, 6-0 in singles.  Joel Ashman and Tannon Dishman won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles.  Brandon Jackson and Caleb Gillis were 6-4, 6-2 winners at No. 2 doubles.

The Eagles dropped only seven games total to Muncie Central.  Jason Wegener won 6-2, 6-1 over Erich Ong.  Ben Bamidele and Tanner Southerland each lost only one game. Tannon Dishman and Joel Ashman won 6-1, 6-0 as Dishman cracked nine aces.  Michael Curtis and Mason Knight won 6-0, 6-1 as Curtis smashed nine overheads over the fence.

Next up for the Eagles will be a match at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday vs. Lapel in the opening round of the Marion Regional.
