Losses are never fun, but there were some positives on Thursday evening in a 2-3 loss to fifth-ranked Center Grove at the Noblesville Tennis Complex.
No. 2 doubles of Elizabeth Bamidele and Rowan Hinds gained a 6-0, 6-3 victory over a strong opponent. Bamidele and Hinds, partners for the first time this season, are now 18-0.
Center Grove has a very young but very talented team that has lost only to No. 1 ranked Guerin Catholic and No. 4 Park Tudor.
The Trojans’ No. 1 singles player was out to rest an injury. Sophie Crabtree won her match 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 for the Eagles’ second point.
There were also some close sets at No. 3 singles and No. 1 doubles, but we couldn’t sustain the play throughout the entire match.
At the JV level, Center Grove won 12-4.
Bria Engle won in singles.
Avery Gray / Mia Elliott gained an impressive 8-7 victory at No. 1 doubles to stay unbeaten together for the season. Sammi Raleigh/Lucy Vance picked up a good win and Emily McElyea/Avery Ayres also won and gained the Tater Award for players of the night. It was Emily’s first win of the season.
The Eagles play tonight (Friday) at New Castle in a conference match at 4:45 p.m.
