With 14 league championships in the past 15 seasons, Delta girls’ tennis has been dominant in the Hoosier Heritage Conference.

That trend continued Monday evening as the Eagles opened the HHC season with a 5-0 shutout victory over visiting Greenfield-Central. The Cougars collected only eight games total in the match.

Things will get much tougher tonight as 13th-ranked Delta (2-0) travels to second-ranked Carmel for a 5:30 p.m. match.

Delta is beginning its next-to-last season in the HHC before joining the Eastern Crossroads Conference in 2027-28.

At No. 1 singles, freshman Sophie Crabtree dictated the points throughout the first set against returning all-conference junior Kate Gilkison, who is the top player for the Cougars for the third straight year. Gilkison made things more competitive in the second set, but Crabtree wrapped up a 6-0, 6-3 victory.

Senior Olivia Marshall won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and missed only one serve return in the match.

Senior Stella Sieber made more than 90 percent of her first serves in a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles.

Both doubles teams won by identical scores, 6-1, 6-0.  Kate Manor and Alexa Bratton won at No. 1, and Rowan Hinds and Elizabeth Bamidele won at No. 2.

In JV action, the Eagles flexed their depth in a 12-4 victory as all 35 team members got to play against the Cougars.

Freshman Paige Hayes, sophomore Maddi Cox and freshman Bria Engle swept the top three JV singles positions.

Sophomore Avery Gray and freshman Mia Elliott won 6-0 at the top JV doubles spot.  Juniors Addy Anderson/Maddy Polito also won as did seniors Audrey Anderson/Ella Marcum and junior Maggie Ratts/sophomore Addisen Condie.  All of those teams played against Greenfield’s top two JV squads.

Shayla Stine and Avery Ayres won an exciting tiebreaker, 6-5 (12-10) in the last match of the evening.
