How sweet it is!
Delta moved on to the IHSAA Sweet Sixteen by shutting out Lapel 5-0 in the regional finals on Wednesday evening at Marion.
Delta (21-5) will play against third-ranked North Central at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Homestead Semi-State in Fort Wayne.
Delta has won 24 of the past 28 regional titles.
First off the court on Wednesday night was Tanner Southerland at No. 1 singles. He defeated freshman Jacob Erwin, 6-2, 6-1, to raise his record to 19-7 this fall.
Moving to 19-6 was junior Adam Altobella at No. 3 singles. He cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory.
Completing the sweep in singles was senior Josef Zacek. He won 7-5, 6-3 at No. 1 singles and is 13-11 for the fall.
Senior Brandon Jackson and junior Walker Boyle won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles. Jackson is a team-best 24-2 overall. Boyle is 15-1 after missing 10 matches in the middle part of the season in quarantine.
In the evening’s most competitive match, seniors Riley Windsor and Jordan Ashton rallied for a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles. Ashton is 19-5 this fall while Windsor is 18-5.
In individual action Wednesday evening, Burris sophomore Charlie Behrman eliminated Marion senior Vikram Oddiraju in three sets. Mississinewa’s Ryan Scott and Riley Fuqua ousted Madison-Grant in the doubles sectional final.
