The boys’ tennis team continued its domination of county rival Yorktown with a 5-0 shutout victory Tuesday evening on the Tiger courts.
Delta has beaten Yorktown in boys’ tennis 52 out of 53 times since 1989.
The 23rd-ranked Eagles (11-2 overall, 5-0 in the HHC) won every varsity match in straight sets on Tuesday. The closest match came at No. 1 singles, where Delta junior Tanner Southerland beat Yorktown senior Joey Ulrich 6-3, 6-4 in a hard-hitting match.
Junior Brandon Jackson was extended a bit in the first set, but prevailed 6-3, 6-1 over Yorktown junior Mason Minniear at No. 2 singles.
Senior Daniel Vencel rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles over Yorktown senior Paul Eaton.
At No. 1 doubles, seniors Cade Brown and Mason Knight defeated Yorktown senior Isaac Stachler and freshman Ethan Darby 6-2, 6-2.
In the final match at No 2 doubles, senior Jaigen Glaze and sophomore Walker Boyle downed Yorktown senior Chance Creviston and freshman Raphael Sabijon 6-2, 6-1.
In the JV match, Delta won 11-3.
Delta plays against 8th-ranked Fort Wayne Carroll tonight (Wednesday) at 5 p.m. at a neutral site, Norwell HS.
