A strong field of 113 players participated in the 2018 Penguin Classic tennis tournament at Delta from June 25-29.
Delta graduate Alec Robillard, who just finished his freshman season at Ball State University on the men’s team, won the Men’s A Singles championship. He defeated Huntington University top player Ignacio Poncio in the semifinals and then beat IUPUI men’s tennis player Grant Esposito in the finals.
The Men’s A doubles title went to Ignacio Poncio and the Huntington coach, Peter Kitchen.
Isabelle Behrman had a big tournament as she won the Girls 17-19 Singles title as well as 15-19 Mixed with Brandon Jackson. Brandon also won Boys 17-19 Doubles with Michael Curtis. Charlie Behrman won Boys 17-19 Singles and was runner-up in 15-19 Mixed. Jason Wegener and Ellie Snider won Mixed A Doubles. Sam and Sasha Academia won Girls Open Doubles. Brad Matheny won Men’s B Single and also teamed with Ryley Bilbrey to win Mixed B Doubles.
